Croatian Money & Banking
- Currency: Kuna (K) = 100 Lipa. Currency Notes are in denominations of K1000, 500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10, and 5.
Coins are in denominations of K5, 2 and 1, and 50, 20, 10, S, 1, and 1 lipa.
- Currency Exchange:
Foreign currency can only be exchanged in banks, authorized dealers and post offices. Any unspent Croatian currency
can only be reexchanged for foreign currency if holding a receipt stating the amount of foreign currency originally exchanged.
- Credit Cards: American Express, Diners Club, MasterCard, and Visa are widely accepted. Check with your credit
card company for details of merchant acceptability and other facilities which may be available.
- Travelers Checks: To avoid additional exchange rate charges, travelers are advised to take travelers checks in
US Dollars, Pounds Sterling, or Deutschmarks.
- Currency Restrictions: The import and export of local currency is limited to K2000 (in banknotes up to K500).
The import and export of foreign currency is unlimited.
- Banking Hours: 0800-1900 Monday to Friday, 0800-1200 Saturday.
Traveling in Croatia
- Duty Free
- No custom duty on 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars, or 250 gms. of tobacco; 1 liter of wine and spirits; 250 ml. of cologne and perfume.
Historic artifacts, art, scientific, or cultural items require an export license by Croatian authorities.

Orthodox citizens of the Republic of Croatia who celebrate Christmas on the 7th of January, citizens of the Islamic faith on the
days of Ramadan Bairam and Kurban Bairam, and citizens of the Jewish faith on the days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur have the right not to work.
