Film Streams, film is an artform

April 12th, 2008

Having attended several films at Film Streams, 1340 Webster St., No. Downtown.  I have a new appreciation for film classics and independent producers. What a great environment! It is refreshing to see independent, foreign, and some great classics with real substance and not the techo-boob-bomb-sound blast of studio films.

A new home for Rosenblatt?

April 23rd, 2008

Well it looks like it is going to happen. Omaha will build a new stadium. I see good and bad. Will Fahey survive this? Yeah, but will he blow town when his term is done? I hope it does not come to that.

I wonder who they’ll name it after? I think it best to keep the Rosenblatt name.

…the most compelling reason to build the stadium is that it will complement all the attractions downtown that will be good for the city, and good for business. No doubt it will be good for Council Bluffs and the casinos. People will find reasonable lodging and can walk to the stadium.

For myself, I hope they make the seats a bit more ergonomic. I’m 6′4″. The seats at the R’blatt are great if you are 5′4″.

I hope the stadium have the breeze that R’blatt had on the hill.

I think the Zoo will make out great. It will be 10 years though.

Omaha Street Car Plan

May 6th, 2008

This idea is nothing new. I’m really enthusiastic about the idea when I need to take a taxi from Eppley Airport to downtown. What a rip! I hope the street cars go the the airport and put ‘em out of business. Really, I’ve heard of fearless leaders; but Fahey acts like he’s got a blank check.
When gas hits $4 a gallon, maybe I’ll buy a moped. Or I’m going to move downtown.

Most people really don’t know how to live without a car in this town. My sister lived in Manhattan for several years. That is where I learned to appreciate how people pay $2000 a month rent… by not owning a car.

I am certain that including opportunity costs, a car 5 yrs or newer for 15K miles per year costs almost $300 per month to own and drive.
